Chelating agent action

Chelating agents are chemical substances that can form stable complexes with metal ions. They form a stable complex system by coordinating and binding with metal ions. Chelating agents have wide applications in many fields, and their main functions are as follows:

Preventing metal deposition: Chelating agents can coordinate with metal ions in water to form low solubility complexes. These complexes can prevent excessive concentration of metal ions in the solution, thereby avoiding metal deposition and scaling.

Inhibition of metal oxidation and corrosion: Chelating agents can form a protective complex film with the metal surface, preventing the metal from reacting with oxygen, water, etc. in the surrounding environment, thereby slowing down the rate of metal oxidation and corrosion.

Promoting the dissolution of metal ions: After chelating agents form complexes with metal ions, the solubility of metal ions in solution can be increased. This is particularly important for some metal ions with low solubility, making them more stable in solution.

Adjusting the reactivity of metal ions: Chelating agents can change the charge and spatial arrangement of metal ions, thereby regulating their reactivity with other chemical substances. This can play an important role in fields such as catalysis, coordination chemistry, and biochemistry.

It should be noted that different chelating agents have different selectivity and applicability. When using chelating agents, the selection should be based on specific application needs and reaction conditions, and relevant safety operation guidelines and regulatory requirements should be followed.
