The main component of ATMP

ATMP (Amino Trimethylene Phosphonic Acid) is a water treatment chemical commonly used as a scale and corrosion inhibitor in various industries, including water treatment, oil and gas, and cooling systems. The main component of ATMP is phosphonic acid, specifically amino trimethylene phosphonic acid. It is a synthetic organic compound that contains phosphorus and amine groups, giving it excellent chelating and sequestering properties.


The chemical formula for ATMP is C3H12NO9P3, indicating its composition of carbon (C), hydrogen (H), nitrogen (N), oxygen (O), and phosphorus (P). Its molecular structure features a central trimethylene chain (three carbon atoms) with phosphonic acid groups (PO3H2) and an amino group (NH2) attached to it.


ATMP is highly effective in preventing scale formation and controlling corrosion caused by calcium, magnesium, iron, and other metal ions in water systems. It works by forming stable complexes with these metal ions, preventing them from precipitating and forming scale deposits. Additionally, ATMP forms a protective film on metal surfaces, inhibiting corrosion caused by aggressive water conditions.


It is worth noting that ATMP is widely used due to its environmental friendliness and biodegradability compared to some alternative scale and corrosion inhibitors.
